Julie Pasqual
Being brought up by two wonderfully pious parents, I was always drawn to the search for something larger than myself. The religion of my youth, though inspiring, did not fill me with what I was looking for. So I read books, listened to talks, did a lot of volunteering, but nothing quite filled the whole in my heart. Then, I took my first yoga class, and within seconds I was hooked…
My 200 YTT gave me a tiny taste of yoga philosophy, but that little bit made me to want to know more. My mentor, YogaRenew’s Patrick Franco, recommended I take a class with the incomparable Ragunath Capo. It was during that course that I first read the text, The Bhagavad Gita, where I first learned stories of Krishna, the power of mantra, and met people who were flooded with love and compassion for all human beings.
That training changed my life, and soon I was on a plane to India to travel to holy cities, hear from scholars, and study sacred text. This pilgrimage led me to The Bhakti Center in New York City, where I took various classes on every text they were studying, including the Srimad Bhagavatam. Realizing this spiritual path was not only what I was looking for, but also what I wanted at the center of my life, I took official initiation in the lineage commonly known as the Hare Krishnas.
The study of yoga philosophy has made me a more humble person, has soothed my soul in times of troubles, and has made me feel complete. Its emphasis on service aligns with what my amazing parents had always modeled for me. It is, as I said earlier, the path of my heart. ❤️
